Wednesday night, 9th Feb 2011, Gosford Uniting Church is hosting a Candidates Forum. Candidates for the coming State Election will answer questions on climate change.
Climate Action Central Coast has arranged for a guest speaker:- Matthew Wright, the founder and Executive Director of the groundbreaking group Beyond Zero Emissions.
This follows Climate Future’s Gosford Forum late last year where Dr Adam Lucas of University of Wollongong presented the results of the Beyond Zero Emissions Project. Matthew Wright present his own vision regarding the problem of re-building our energy systems.
Matthew was the recipient of the 2010 Environment Minister’s Young Environmentalist of the Year award. Beyond Zero Emissions also won the Mercedes Benz Australian Environmental Research Award for the Zero Carbon Australia 2020 Stationary Energy Plan – written in collaboration with the University of Melbourne Energy Research Institute.
NSW State Election candidates Chris Holstein (Lib), Katie Smith (ALP) and Peter Freewater (Grn) will present their answers to the following questions:
If elected, what are the three main actions you and your party will take to mitigate climate change?
Do you support the proposed Wallarah 2 coal mine in Wyong Shire?
Do you support the building of new coal-fired power stations or the expansion of existing ones in NSW?
Do you support offshore gas drilling along the NSW and Central Coast?
Do you support coal seam gas extraction in the Hunter Valley and elsewhere in NSW?
A question and answer session will follow where members of the audience can ask questions of the candidates.
These are issues which are relevant to all Central Coast electorates, so come and have your say.
When : Wednesday 9 February, 7-9pm
Where : Gosford Uniting Church Hall, 129 Donnison St, Gosford
